Welcome to Elderfield Controls: Running and Farming Tools

Use sprint and bicycle controls in Welcome to Elderfield, keep farming tools in your inventory, and distinguish slow walking from performance problems.

Move faster with the sprint input

With default keyboard controls, Shift runs indoors and uses the bicycle outdoors or in some indoor areas, according to Chris Cote's September 9 reply.

Scope: Developer Demo guidance from 2025 and September 2026, checked September 15. Remapped controls can differ.

Farming tools are not equipment

The developer says farming requires the appropriate tool in your inventory. There is no need to equip it through the equipment menu. He directs players to the farming tutorial in Help.

If you cannot farm:

  1. Check that the required tool is carried.
  2. Open the farming tutorial in Help.
  3. Compare the action prompt with your control settings.
  4. Try the correct action on the intended target.

Do not move a tool into storage merely because it cannot be equipped.

Movement versus performance

Walking slowly is different from stuttering. Try the sprint input before treating walking speed as a graphics failure. The developer ties the available speeds to the visual and camera design; this source does not document a free-form speed slider.

Continue with the right next step

If the tool is missing rather than unequipped, follow the Basic Axe reward route. For stuttering or an application that will not open, compare the developer’s launch checklist.
