Your Demo progress can carry over
Chris Cote says installing the full game should transfer the Demo save automatically. Continuing that save does not block added content.

The developer describes more town access, news broadcasts and the job board in the full opening. Seasons mean an established Demo save can enter a different season immediately. A restart is a pacing choice, not an announced requirement to access new content.
Before switching
Keep your existing save available. Install the full game and confirm which Steam entry you launch. If progress is missing, preserve what remains before attempting repairs. Record whether the save is absent or fails to load.
Limits
The transfer answer does not specify every slot, modified-save compatibility or transfer rewards. It is not a guarantee for much older alpha saves.
